Germany
Hagen: Hohenhof (North Rhine Westphalia)
Henry van de Velde (1863-1957)
Hohenhof(1906-1908)
Stirnband 10, Hagen-Emst
Private mansion of Karl Ernst Osthaus who aroused the so-called Hagen Impulse: Being an industrialist and the son of a banker, having inherited a large fortune from his grandparents, he used it in order "to reconcile art and life". Therefore he invited many European artists to Hagen where he intended to establish an artists' colony just like the Mathildenhöhe in Darmstadt, thus influencing the artistic development all over Europe.
Ground Floor
Office of Karl Ernst Osthaus. In 1913, walls and ceiling were painted by Jan Thorn-Prikker in a way that van de Velde did not approve.
